Well, this is not the start to week one the Tennessee Titans were hoping for. It came out yesterday that LB Cedric Gray suffered a concussion in a UTV accident. The good news here is that the injury wasn’t more serious than it was. The bad news is that Gray is now in concussion protocol.

We know that no two concussions are the same. There is a chance that Gray is able to make it through the protocol in time to play on Sunday against the New York Jets, but that seems unlikely. The most likely scenario is that they have to try to win this game without Gray on the field.

Gray emerged as a really good player for the Titans last season. He had 164 total tackles in 16 games last season in his second year with the Titans. He’s a big key for the success of the defense in 2026. Hopefully, he won’t be off the field for very long.

Tennessee Titans first-round pick Keldrick Faulk left practice last week with a shoulder injury. Robert Saleh said today that Faulk won’t practice this week, but that he is expected to be ready for the regular season opener against the New York Jets. Saleh didn’t give any specifics on the injury because he isn’t required to in the preseason.

The only good news here is that the Titans have more depth on the defensive line than anywhere else on the roster. Even if Faulk isn’t ready for the start of the season, they can get by with the other guys they have up front. That is certainly not the case in other places on the roster.

It probably feels pretty dumb to feel good about anything on the defense after the performance we have seen from them in the first two games, but I still think they are going to be good. There is plenty of talent on that side of the ball, and we know Saleh can coach a defense.

Am I crazy to still have optimism about the defense?

Carnell Tate reportedly took a big hit at the end of Tennessee Titans practice on Monday. Robert Saleh said afterwards that he was a bit shaken up, but that they did not think he had a concussion. So no real cause for concern until practice started today and there was no sign of Tate.

The good news is that Saleh said after practice today that Tate was held out because of stiffness. His absence today was not related to the hit he took earlier in the week. Hopefully, he will be available for the joint practice with the Seattle Seahawks on Friday. That is valuable work for a rookie.

Keldrick Faulk left today’s practice with a shoulder injury. Buck Reising said on 104.5 The Zone that it looked like they were trying to pop his shoulder back in:

“I think they’re about to pop Keldric Faulk’s shoulder back in” –@BuckReising on @1045TheZone https://t.co/BRyu0t5wPo
— AtoZ Sports Nashville (@AtoZSports) August 19, 2026

Saleh said after practice that they were hopeful it was just a stinger. Like Tate, the reps against the Seahawks are important for Faulk. We will have to keep our fingers crossed that he will be able to be out there.

Tennessee Titans rookie WR Carnell Tate didn’t practice yesterday. I saw a few posts with the headline “Carnell Tate injury update,” but when you click on the story, it doesn’t actually have an update. Hey, it’s always clickbait season!

The team hasn’t said anything officially about why Tate didn’t practice. There are reports out there that it is a minor thing that shouldn’t keep him out for long. Of course, if you have been a Titans fan for any length of time, you know that when it comes to receivers around here, that could mean he will miss a month or more. The good news there is that we are still about six weeks away from the opening of training camp. That should give him plenty of time to be ready.

By all accounts, Tate has been great so far this offseason. The Titans haven’t had a true number one receiver since they traded A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles. They might just have that in Tate.

This is also the deepest receiver room they have had since they moved to Tennessee. They won’t need Tate to be the star from day one.

There is some good news on the Cam Ward injury front. The Tennessee Titans quarterback is “progressing well” in his rehab and is set to start throwing again in two to three weeks, according to Cameron Wolfe:

THE WOLFE OF BALL STREET: Pre-NFL Combine buzz

— Titans QB Cam Ward Year 2 offseason throw plan after injury + why Ward-Brian Daboll bond off to great start
— Packers LT Rasheed Walker set to get 💰 in free agency
— Team eye Dolphins trade targets, Minkah Fitzpatrick 1 to watch pic.twitter.com/UOmJWJx239
— Cameron Wolfe (@CameronWolfe) February 21, 2026

That’s great news because it puts Ward on track to be ready when the Titans start OTAs. The biggest fear when Ward was injured in the 2025 season finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars was that Ward wouldn’t be ready for the offseason program with the new staff. This report eases those concerns.

New Titans offensive coordinator is clearly a big fan of Ward. He wanted the New York Giants to trade up and draft Ward in the 2025 NFL Draft when Daboll was the head coach of the Giants. Now, he gets to work with Ward in Tennessee.

Ward made some pretty big strides in his rookie year, even with all of the upheaval that happened with the Titans last season. Now, he gets to work with a really good OC who will be able to put the young quarterback in the best possible spot to have success. If the Titans can add some weapons to the offense this offseason, Ward should have a really big 2026 season.

Good news on the Cam Ward injury front today. Both Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport are reporting that the Tennessee Titans quarterback will not need surgery. He does have a sprained AC joint, but the doctors do not believe it will require him to go under the knife. That speeds up his rehab process tremendously.

We probably won’t get an official timeline with the season being over, but this is probably more of a 6-12 week recovery versus the four months plus that would have been required with surgery. That would have Ward available for OTAs with whoever the new coach is.

Ward also needs to spend some time this offseason working on his footwork. Being out until training camp would have made that extremely difficult. We know that Ward is going to put in the work. This outcome gets him ready to do that work a whole lot sooner.

We saw real progress from Ward in the last quarter of the season. He finished the season throwing for 3,169 yards with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns.

Jeff Howe of The Athletic is reporting that Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward suffered a Grade 3 AC joint sprain in his right shoulder. Ward suffered the injury on a first-quarter touchdown run in the Titans’ 41-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mike McCoy said after the game that additional testing will be done on Ward’s shoulder when the team returns to Nashville.

The only upside here is that the injury comes in the final game of the season. That gives Ward the entire offseason to heal. Friend of the site, Mike Herndon, provided some medical insight on the timeline for Ward’s recovery:

Dr. Google says 6-12 weeks recovery if they take a non-surgical rehab approach.

If surgery is required or preferred do long term stabilization, Ward would likely be able to return to throwing in 4-6 months.

Surgery probably means no OTAs for Ward. https://t.co/bK4HrYYi2e
— Mike Herndon (@MikeHerndonSk1) January 4, 2026

As Mike said, if Ward does need surgery, he will be out four to six months. That would keep him out of OTAs, which is a pretty big deal considering the Titans will be using that time to install a new offense with a new head coach. Either way, it’s a setback for Ward because he really needs to spend time this offseason working on his footwork, because that was the biggest struggle he had during his rookie season.

My guess is that they will opt for surgery to make sure that everything is 100% when he is back on the field when the 2026 season kicks off, but that is just pure speculation on my part.

[UPDATE #1] – It is Ward’s right shoulder that was injured.

Well, it’s a miracle that we made it this far without Cam Ward getting hurt due to how many sacks he has taken. That streak ended today. Ward scored a 7-yard rushing touchdown but took a big hit at the end of the run. He went into the blue medical tent after the play and to the locker room shortly after that.

Here’s the play:

Cam Ward was hurt on this play, and now has gone to the locker room. pic.twitter.com/giF9gGrCSv
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 4, 2026

Brandon Allen is the Tennessee Titans’ backup quarterback. He has not taken a snap to this point in the season. In fact, Ward had been the only QB in the league to take every snap for his team this season.

The Titans are currently tied at 7 with the Jacksonville Jaguars. A Jaguars win today would make them the AFC South Champions and give them a home game in the playoffs.

Ian Rapoport reported that it is a shoulder injury that sent Ward to the locker room. He did not specify which shoulder was injured.

#Titans QB Cam Ward (shoulder) is questionable to return vs. the #Jaguars.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 4, 2026

We will keep you updated on Ward’s status as more information becomes available.

Tennessee Titans linebacker Cedric Gray will miss Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs due to a concussion. Gray did get back on the practice field in a limited capacity today, so it does seem like he is progressing through the protocol. That should give him a chance to be back for next week’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

Femi Oladejo returned to practice this week, but he will also be out against the Chiefs. Hopefully, he will also be back next week. Oladejo has a ton of potential, but is still very raw. He needs all of the reps he can get before next year.

Bryce Oliver is the only other player who was ruled out.

The Titans have five players listed as questionable, including Arden Key, who just popped up on the injury report today with an illness. I guess he didn’t adjust his immune system defense.

For the Chiefs, Rashee Rice will miss Sunday due to a concussion.

The Tennessee Titans suffered a trio of injuries in the defensive backfield against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 15. Safeties Mike Brown, Kevin Winston Jr. and Xavier Woods all suffered injuries that forced them exit early. All three have since been placed on season-ending IR.

The Titans signed Erick Hallett from the Detroit Lions practice squad and Sanoussi Kane from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad to replace them. If Dennard Wilson can help it, Hallett and Sanoussi won’t play defensive snaps versus the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 16. With that in mind, we’ve analyzed how the Titans can line up following all this shifting.

Outside CB: Darrell Baker Jr.

Darrell Baker Jr. will continue serving as the Titans’ No. 1 cornerback. That’s been the case since Jalyn Armour-Davis suffered an Achilles injury. There’s no indication that Armour-Davis is ready to return, even though he hasn’t been placed on IR. Baker Jr. will definitely continue starting outside.

Outside CB: Kaiir Elam

Cornerback Kaiir Elam stepped into the lineup opposite Baker Jr. following the injury to Woods. Elam, a 2022 first-round bust of the Buffalo Bills, played 24 snaps outside. He figures to earn the start outside unless Armour-Davis returns.

Nickel: Marcus Harris

Rookie Marcus Harris had initially been playing nickel when he entered the lineup following the Roger McCreary trade. The Titans then shifted him to outside due to injuries, with Winston Jr. playing the nickel. Well, Harris figures to be a permanent fixture inside again given that the Titans have healthier options at boundary corner.

Safety: Amani Hooker

The Titans’ best defensive backfield player is Amani Hooker. He’s been a long-term fixture at safety, though he momentarily took over the nickel position last weekend following the injury to Winston. Hooker quickly moved back to safety after Woods left injured, and he figures to stay at his most familiar position versus the Chiefs.

Safety: Kendell Brooks

Kendell Brooks played a hefty 56 snaps at safety against the 49ers. With three injuries at safety, and Kane/Hallett being new additions, Brooks figures to stay at safety opposite Hooker. He’s been an on-again, off-again member of the practice squad since 2024.
