The Tennessee Titans set their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday. Surprises included trading for linebacker Ernest Jones IV, keeping five tight ends (Thomas Odukoya), and going light at cornerback and defensive tackle with just four players apiece at those positions. That guarantees that more changes are coming to the roster as early as Wednesday afternoon.
Titans linked with DB James Bradberry, EDGE Tyus Bowser
Could the Tennessee Titans add one of these veterans to their roster?
Two veterans the Titans are currently being linked with are defensive back James Bradberry, and outside linebacker Tyus Bowser.
Bradberry made the Philadelphia Eagles’ initial 53-man roster, but that doesn’t rule out a trade. This link is particularly interesting for various reasons. The aging Bradberry struggled at his natural cornerback position last season, prompting the Eagles to encourage a switch to safety this offseason.
Bradberry’s acclimation to safety has allegedly gone poorly, and the Titans are pretty settled there with Amani Hooker, Quandre Diggs, Jamal Adams, and Elijah Molden. The Titans are however expected to add another cornerback after keeping just four on the initial roster. Defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson spent the 2022 season coaching Bradberry in Philly. He earned Second-Team All-Pro honors under Wilson’s watch.
Bowser is set to visit the Titans after completing a visit with the Dallas Cowboys.
Bowser missed the entire 2023 campaign with a recurring knee injury that led to persistent swelling issues. Bowser didn’t play for the Baltimore Ravens last season, but he was around Wilson, who served as the defensive backs coach. That familiarity always made Bowser a potential target this offseason.
Bowser was outstanding throughout the 2021 campaign when he was last fully healthy. The former second-round pick out of Houston recorded a career-high 7.0 sacks that season. At his best, Bowser is exactly the type of aggressive and versatile athlete that would thrive in Wilson’s attacking-style defense.
We’ll continue monitoring the Titans’ transactions following Wednesday’s waiver claims process.
