The Tennessee Titans entered the offseason needing multiple upgrades at the wide receiver position. General manager Ran Carthon made a massive splash when he signed Calvin Ridley to a four-year contract worth $92 million on March 15. Ridley will partner with DeAndre Hopkins to serve as Will Levis’ go-to receivers.
Titans discussed signing another WR in free agency
An NFL wide receiver recently revealed that he held talks with the Tennessee Titans earlier this offseason
Another passing-game weapon was required for new head coach Brian Callahan to comfortably install his pass-happy offense. The Titans appeased that request by signing Tyler Boyd to a one-year contract on May 13. Callahan coached Boyd with the Cincinnati Bengals for the previous five seasons.
The Titans nearly signed a third receiver in free agency. Equanimeous St. Brown and his brother Amon-Ra St. Brown have their own podcast called the “St. Brown Podcast.” Equanimeous St. Brown was a free agent earlier this offseason and signed with the New Orleans Saints on April 12. Brown recently revealed that the Titans were among the teams that showed interest.
“I talked to a few teams, the New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers, and Tennessee Titans,” St. Brown said, before signing with the Saints. “I felt like the Saints were the best fit for my career. I’m glad I went there [to New Orleans]. I’ve already spent the offseason there. OTA was great,” St. Brown concluded.
What’s interesting is that St. Brown signed with the Saints approximately one month before the Titans added Boyd. Would Carthon still have pursued Boyd had he successfully lured St. Brown to Nashville one month earlier? Probably, given his shared history with Callahan, but it’s a question worth asking.
Or perhaps Treylon Burks would have been placed on the trading block.
